Jack Paris Williams began composing at age ten. He grew up in a creative and supportive environment, with a mother who is a songwriter, and a father who is a planetary physicist and musician. While Jack Paris also developed a talent for fine art, science, and creative writing, it was music that captured his heart. At age fifteen, he won the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Composition in the National Reflections Competition, advancing to the state level, and the following year, his work received international recognition when he won the Young Musicians for World Peace Award in the Global Peace Song Awards. He signed with the music for media company, Great Minds Sync Alike, and at age eighteen, his original composition "Giant Step" was signed to the Paramount Global production music library.
Jack Paris received generous offers from multiple colleges, including Berklee College of Music, Chapman University, and Bennington College, but he was drawn to the vibrant artistic community and exceptional faculty at California Institute of the Arts, where he is earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Composition and Experimental Sound Practices, with a concentration in film scoring and a minor in creative writing. An active member of the music community, he has performed with the Javanese Gamelan Ensemble, the Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, the Japanese Koto Ensemble, and various classical chamber groups, at multiple concerts including the World Music Festival, the San Diego State University Javanese Gamelan Spring Concert, the World Music Collectives, BFA Composers Concerts, CalArts Noon Concerts, and OK Composers concerts. While a student at CalArts, he also worked as a stage manager for concerts, and a music theory tutor for other students, in addition to completing an internship at the Grammy award-winning immersive audio recording studio, Marshmellow Skies, with legendary producer, Ken Caillat (Fleetwood Mac, Colbie Caillat, Joni Mitchell).
Jack Paris’ goal is to create epic scores for feature films. For now, he is building his craft, and planning to earn a Masters and PhD in music composition while concurrently working in the music industry. “Until then”, Jack Paris says. “I am listening and learning. I hope to develop my own voice and create a unique sound that combines classical music with modern elements, so I am not only following in the footsteps of the great composers, but forging a new path and furthering the boundaries of creative expression”.
